Ekebergrestauranten

Ekebergrestauranten (the Ekeberg restaurant) has a fantastic view, as you can see on this link.

The building was set up in the 1920's and is one of Norway's finest examples of classical functionalism. The restaurant has always been a popular place, but unfortunately had to be closed in 1997 due to decay. After extensive restoration, it was re-opened in 2005.

Where doves cry

Next to the metro station at Majorstua in Oslo, you can find this dovecote. Usually there are lots of pigeons nearby, but when I took this photo none could be seen. I guess they've all gone to Deli de Luca to buy coffee. (They shouldn't, though, the coffee there is dreadful.)

Building activity

It seems like there's always some building activity going on somewhere in the city. This is from a part of Oslo called Røa, and as you can see they're almost done with a new building to the left in the picture. There used to be a food store there and also some private homes. As far as I know, the food store will be back on ground floor and there will be apartments above. I bet the apartments are already sold out - to an insane price (this is western Oslo, which is considered "good"). I wouldn't really want to live there myself, as there's a lot of traffic. Actually, I used to rent an apartment right behind where I stand taking this photo. It was expencive and always a lot of noise. And you can guess what my windows looked like...

Fountain close up

This is the same fountain as in yesterday's post. Just a closer look.

A happy weekend to you!

Fountain

This is the fountain near Nationaltheatret (The national theater), in the center of Oslo. I'll show you the theater later. The fountain is situated behind the theater, just outside of the entries to the tube and the train staion. Busses and trams are also easy to access here, you can see the blue tram in the background.
