Lots of snow

Oslo has had a lot of snow lately, which causes the typical winter chaos. There aren't enough snowploughs to clear the roads in time, so the smartest thing is really to just leave your car where it is parked and hope you'll be able to get it out later. Unfortunately, the usual alternative to cars is the metro, but the metro has big problems when it's snowing; it's often delayed and sometimes you will find that the train you need has been cancelled. Bummer...

The best thing really, is to just stay at home, light candles and drink hot cocoa while reading a good book. :-)

Still open

Narvesen (a small shop often to be found near the metro stations) is usually open from early morning til late evening.

First snow this winter

I woke up to a white Oslo today. I reacted like a child and thought it was exciting and beautiful. In about three days I'm going to be complaining about it and missing spring. :)

By the way: Thank you so much, Fio & Prado for the award! We really appreciate this nice gesture. Only a few days ago we made a similar post where we awarded some of our favourites. You can see them here.

Why now..?

This winter we've hardly had any snow. When we finally thought that spring was almost here, all of a sudden we get cold weather and snow again. Not fun at all! This picture was taken yesterday at Carl Berner in Oslo. I had to drive very carefully when I went home, as it was quite slippery.

I've showed you this view before, when I told you about the yellow and the red wooden buildings that they are planning to demolish to build a shopping center and more parking space.

Please, have a seat

It was not so tempting to sit down at these benches last weekend... ;o)

Poor bicycles...

....left to themselves in the snowfall....
This was last sunday. Today it is quite different...the snow is mostly gone (there is only some icy stuff left), and it's raining again! :o(

Covered in snow

I don't really enjoy the winter. As I've earlier told Kristie, winter in Oslo means sudden shifts from cold to mild weather - and then to colder again. This means that if we do get snow, it usually melts quickly, then it freezes and it gets dangerously slippery outside. I truly hate that... deeply.

BUT - when we do get snow and it stays cold enough for it to stay as snow - and it looks like in the photo above - I actually can enjoy the winter. It's quite beautiful, of course, but something else I kind of forget from year to year is that the snow muffles sounds. Going out after (or during) snowfall has a special feeling to it; Everything feels quiet.

Peaceful

We have a little snow. Enough to cover most of the ground, at least.

Snow for Kristie

Poor Kristie. Moving from California to Norway, she's delighted about winter and wakes up everyday hoping it has snowed. So far, nothing. Every other day she's posting about the lack of snow and it's painful to see her disappointment. Therefore, I had to tell her the truth.

I feel bad now, but I hope a few photos from snowy Oslo will help. This was taken in January this year and shows the view from my balcony (again). But this time it's almost blocked by all the snow. I remember I had to showel the balcony to be able to open and shut my door. Oh joy...

Well, Kristie... just be patient, you'll soon get more of the white, cold stuff than you've ever dreamed of, I'm sure. :-)

First snow

As I told you a couple of days ago, we had our first snow this winter. I took a few photos and this is one of them. It was quite windy and the snowflakes were whirling in the air. Luckily none of it stayed on the ground. Well, it did... but just as water. :-)
