Bygdøy

Ocean salt and wet and deep
As of many eyes that weep
Everyone's alone

(From Berceuse by André Bjerke)

Picture taken at Bygdøy, a very popular area in the summer. People go here to swim and sunbathe. I prefer it in the autumn when it's more quiet.

Interferens - a memorial

This is from Bygdøy in Oslo, where this piece of art called "Interferens" is placed there as a memorial for all the tsunami victims in December 2004.

The sculpture is made by John Audun Hauge in 2007 after a competition on behalf of the Norwegian government.

Someone was water skiing in the harbour last night. Behind them you can see a part of the city. You may among other buildings spot the opera, and behind it the Radisson SAS Plaza hotell. :o)

Sunset over Oslo

A rainy afternoon in Oslo, but then all of a sudden, the sun shines again.

A view of Oslo towards the fjord. The spring is getting closer

Steilene

Outside Oslo there is a group of five small islands called Steilene. These five islands have a violent past if we should beleive the history behind the name. It's said that the name Steilene come from an instrument used in conjunction with torture and deathpenalties, that is called an Steile. The history says that the islands was used as a place where they killed criminals. Others belive Steilene was used to warn seafarers of the horrible punishment that was given to mutiny.

This is Fyrsteilene (in English that would be Lighthouse-steilene), the outermost of the islands. In the past somebody had to live on the island to watch the lighthouse, but today it's all automated. But you can rent the house if you want to stay for a night or two (or more). :o)

You can see Oslo behind the island. To the left for the sailingyacht you can spot Holmenkollen too (the skijumping-arena Lothiane showed you earlier).

Another big boat

This is another one of the big ships that arrive in Oslo everyday. I have some vague memories of being very drunk onboard of one of these. Not my proudest moment, but I guess most young adults in Oslo share that experience.

These ships go to Denmark (and some to Germany) and all sell inexpencive alcohol and tobacco onboard in their taxfree-shops. These things are very expencive in Norway, so people go on these trips to buy the "bad stuff". Well, they also go to have fun and on holidays.

In the background you can see the colourful cottages on the small islands situated in the inner parts of the Oslo fjord. My father and his family lived on an island like that each summer until he moved out. My grandparents continued to live there until they were too old. Some great memories for me. :-)
