One Year Anniversary!

Oslo Daily Photo celebrates 1-year anniversary today!

Stormel and Lothiane took this very seriously (of course!) so we brought out all our party effects and went crazy on Lothiane's balcony. Too bad you couldn't all be here! (Unfortunately the balcony is too small, anyway.)

The world's biggest cruiseship, Independence of the Seas, has visited Oslo for a couple of days - it's really huge!! It is higher than Akershus Fortress!

The opening of the new opera

Saturday the new opera house in Oslo was officially opened. There was a show for special guests (royalties, celebrities and politicians) and the whole thing ended with a huge display of fireworks. Everything was sent on TV so everyone who wanted could join in. I took a few photos of the fireworks from my balcony.

Holmenkollen Park Hotel

This beautiful building is Holmenkollen Park Hotel. It is located close to the skijumping arena.

Fridtjof Nansen II

Fridtjof Nansen

This is a statue of Fridtjof Nansen, standing right next to the Holmenkollen ski jump. Fridtjof Nansen was an Norwegian explorer, scientist and diplomat living from 1861-1930. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Price in 1922 for his work as a League of Nations High Commissioner.

Holmenkollen by night

Supposedly, they're going to tear down Holmenkollen ski jump in order to build a new and more modern one. Therefore Stormel and myself went up there one night to take pictures. It was a windy night, we got rain, hail and snow while we were there. But we did get the photos we wanted.

It's kind of sad that they're going to tear the ski jump down, it's been here "forever" and it's one of the most visited sightseeings in Oslo. Hopefully the new ski jump will be just as nice.

Horse Foot

Weeeeee - it's spring!! :o)

I really love to find these first, yellow signs of spring. In Norway we call these flowers Hestehov (=Horse foot).

Cheese slicer

This is a Norwegian invention, the cheese slicer. You will find it in many different designs and materials, all depending on the price you pay for it. This is a cheap one, with a plastic handle. It still does it's job, though.

Something fun for the kids

This is from the Bogstad Estate. It's situated in a very nice area near the Bogstad lake. Many people go on foot to this place, some together with their kids. This playground is probably meant for the youngest visitors. :)
