Ibsen quotes

Henrik Ibsen, 20 March 1828–23 May 1906 was one of Norway's most famous authors ever. His writing has inspired a street artwork: From Arbins gate (Arbin's street) to the Grand hotel (where Ibsen lived and where he used to eat), you can find famous quotes from his plays.

This one says: Evigt ejes kun det tabte which translates into something like "Only that which is lost remains eternal".

Be a king...

A new campaign in Oslo to make people use the litter boxes all over town. They call the campaign "Pimp our city" and I'm probably too old, because I don't like the name at all. I guess it's directed mostly at younger people, and the video tells you that you're "king" if you throw things in the litter box and not outside of it.

Storgata

This street is called Storgata.

Rodeløkka

This picture is from Langgata ('the long street') in the Rodeløkka area. These wooden houses dates back to 1850-1880. Some of these houses used to be shops, with apartments above them. The shops are turned into apartments now. I've visited one of them, and the back garden is like a little oasis. :-)

The area used to be a typical working class area and early 1900 it was regarded as a slum. For a while it was decided that the whole area would be torn down, but after demonstrations a lot of the houses were kept and renovated. The remaining 137 buildings were declared worthy of preservation in 1988.
