The harbour storehouse

This pinkish building was my dream building when I was a child. I thought it looked like a castle and dreamt of living in one of the towers. I guess that has changed. :-)

Ferry to Denmark

This ferry; Stena Line, leaves Oslo every evening to take passengers to Fredrikshavn in Denmark. You can bring your car if you want to drive through Denmark to Germany (and the rest of Europe), or you can take a round trip of approximately 24 hours. The ferry offers tax free alcohol, tobacco, candy and other merchandises. There are several restaurants on board, and there is usually entertainment and dancing in the evening.

Oslo harbour

This is another view from the new Opera House in Oslo. You see part of the harbour and some of the inner parts of Oslo fiord. In the background you see the "seamen's school", which is now used by another school: Norwegian school of management. It's a really nice building, built like a small fortress.

Color Line III

Just after the Color Line arrived, this red tow boat came along... together with a black boat of some sorts. It looked like the red boat towed/dragged the other boat. I have no idea why... :-)

Color Line I

This is where the huge boats from Color Line arrives and leaves, bringing passengers and cars to ports in Denmark and Germany. Photo was taken on the same day and spot as the thieving seagull.

Dinner for one?

I spent a great afternoon and evening down by the seaside at Frognerstranda, a place where you have a great view of the inner parts of the Oslo fjord. Huge ships came and went, people enjoyed a sunny day out on their boats, and I spent a few hours drinking ice cold beer with some nice people.

This seagull seemed to know this place well. He sat on a roof nearby, closely watching when people was served, not going to miss any chance to get a good meal.

First, he almost stole some man's dinner. We managed to scare the big bird away, but he didn't give up. Later he found two plates with leftovers and had a fiest!

Aker Brygge IV

This is an other view at Aker brygge from the harbor as I took while waiting for leaving to Oscarsborg.

This is my last picture here for now. My sister will post tomorrow again! Thanks!

The harbour

This is another view from Aker Brygge; the Oslo City Hall seen from the harbour.

The boats you see are mostly ferries, but I don't know where they'll take you.

A view from a hill

Today's photos are taken from my balcony. The view is towards the center of Oslo and of the Oslo fiord. As you can see the spring has done wonders to the nature, it's green everywhere. Very lovely, after a long, cold winter.

The second photo is a closer look at the harbour area, showing furthest to the left the Oslo City Hall (the brown, square building). You can also see the small islands right outside the harbour. There are ferries going to and from these islands. On some you can only visit during daytime, but on others there are small cottages where people live during spring/summer. My grandparents had a cottage on one of these islands. Only 10 minutes by ferry and we were in paradise. These days you have to be a millionaire to get a cottage here, but in the beginning (early 1900, I think) they were put there to create summer homes for the working class people. Normally these people could not afford going away in the holidays, but not they had a great place where the family could live from Easter to Autumn.
